We spent a wonderful day in Ketchikan - our last port stop on Saturday. These were our views of the town from the port. We could see a United Methodist church in the distance - the blue roof in the distance with the cross on the building.
Our excursion this day was a rainforest hike and learning about Totem Poles. Most of Alaska (and Seattle in the Pacific North West) is part of a temperate rainforest (doesn't get above 70 degrees). Our tour ended up being just Amy and I with one other family of 3 in a small van. It was a great way to see the landscape. We saw the amazing tall trees, a waterfall, hiked to the shoreline (and saw an otter and kelp!). Also our tour guide Gabe picked berries for people to try - Amy liked the salmon berries.
Then we went to Potlatch Park to view the Totem Poles, from the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian clans. We also got to walk through one of the clan houses. And they had a museum of old antique cars as well.
When we got back to the port, we decided to walk around downtown. There were more totem poles scattered around town. And then we walked along the boardwalk and shopped at Creek Street.
We did get in an extra walk up the hill to see the UMC church - turns out they have an Easter Totem Pole on the side of the church.
When we went to get on board, the photopass folks were out again.
We had time to make it on board to see the new Toy Story 5 movie in the Buena Vista Theater. The theater seats about 200 people and there were about 75 in our showing. We got popcorn - and the movie was awesome!
Then we did more pictures before heading to Animator's Palate for dinner.
We had to get to dinner early so that we could draw our character to be animated on the screens. Later it was returned to us with a stamp that said "Walt Disney Animator," and our names went on the credit screen in our own handwriting afterwards.
We saw princess Minnie meeting kids in the atrium.
The whole night wrapped up with a rat (Remy!) for a towel animal.
