A Night of Music

Parker came home from FSC last Wednesday night. On Friday night we went to the Venice Symphony as a family for their Holiday Spectacular - it was wonderful!

The Messiah in Concert

For the last six weeks I've been practicing on Monday nights with the Sarasota Choral Society at Church of the Palms in Sarasota. We've been working on Handel's Messiah. I have loved the practice times. It feels so good to be back singing again. And I could hear the voices of my Grandpa Keller and my dear friend Diane Wright cheering me on and telling me how to breathe and enunciate my words. Over the weekend we got to put on our performance - 130 voice choir, 15 piece orchestra and 4 soloists - in front of a sold out crowd.

The view from the loft before the people came in.

Daryl got some really great pictures during the performance.

It brought back so many good memories to sing the Messiah again! Another wonderful way to celebrate the Christmas holidays here in our new town.

There was a professional string quarter that visited Davis' music class last week.

More Davis News

Miss Vicki took Davis to look for one of these hidden shark's tooth cards around Venice over the weekend and they found one.

They took it into the store and he spun the wheel - and won a shark's jaw complete with teeth!

And over the weekend, Grandmommy and Aunt Diane and Uncle Steve helped us get Davis a "bass buggy" to help him wheel his bass around music camp instead of having to carry it. He's a much happier camper now! Super grateful to Grandmommy for picking it up from the Violin Shop in Tampa and for Diane and Steve bringing it to us from Tampa.

Davis Goes To Music Camp

On Monday Davis started music camp near the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center downtown. This is about five minutes away from my office, so I've been taking him to camp, spending a half day at the office and picking him up to come home and write on my dissertation.

Davis has two weeks of music camp in the mornings which will culminate in a concert at Riverview High School on the last day, July 21. He is the only beginner double bass and as such is getting a 45 minute private lesson every day on the music his ensemble will perform. He was pretty nervous about going to camp but he is enjoying so far.

Christmas Concerts

Friday night and Saturday night the music ministry at church put on two performances of "Christmas Now and Then." It was a lot of fun to be in and it was wonderful to be a part of. Friday night, Daryl snapped a few pictures during from the front row (where he was sitting with the Landstedt kids).

And then on Saturday night, Daryl was up in the lighting booth and got some great pictures. And I got a few videos of the 9Thirty Band from my vantage point in the choir loft.

A few selfies with some of my favorite people!
