Because of my immune system and the increase in Covid cases here and out west, we were not comfortable this year in flying out to our long-planned Christmas vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sedona, Arizona. There was no way I wanted to be in airports or cooped up in airplanes with people traveling. With a heavy heart, we postponed our trip until Christmas 2021. We tried to find a few fun things that we could do in central Florida that were low risk on our staycation.
First up, Orange City and Deland. We drove over to Blue Spring State Park on Monday afternoon and went to see the manatees. This place has become a refuge over the last 30 or so years for manatees in the winter and the park closes down all of its swimming and water sports for several months to accommodate the influx of manatees seeking to get warm.
Then we drove over to see Stetson University in Deland. This was one of the colleges I toured back in high school and a few friends of ours graduated from here. Just trying to spark a little interest in our college junior about what campus life might be like in college.
