IMG Senior Commitment Day

Wednesday morning was the Senior Commitment Day at IMG Academy. We celebrated in the basketball complex. Over 400 seniors from the ten different sport programs got to walk across the stage and announce their name and where they are going to continue their academic and athletic development. The dress code was suspended for today so that they could wear gear from their new colleges.

Each sport program came through the arch to their own music. Here is the track and field entrance.

Dan McKee the head of school speaking to open the event.

Track and Field Head Coach Mark Napier shared about the successes of the track team before the seniors walked across the stage.

We're excited to start cheering for our very own St Leo Lion!!

Back to School

Back to school is happening for us in three waves this year.
The first wave was Monday morning.
Davis headed off on the bus to Riverview High for his 10th grade year.

Hard to believe he is already in 10th grade!

He is taking Pre IB English, Spanish 2, Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra 2, World History, Nuclear Radiation and Intro to Engineering.

High Jumping Meet 3

Friday's varsity meet this week was at Charlotte High School in Punta Gorda. Wesley did well and cleared 5'8" again, this time with fewer scratches than the previous week. He ended up coming in 6th overall.

Height of 5'4"

Height of 5'6"

Height of 5'8"

This time Davis was able to make it to the meet and also Tom and Ellen Davis from the church came to see him jump. It was really nice to be able to hang out with folks and cheer him on.

High Jumper Meet 2

This week the varsity track meet was at Braden River High School in Bradenton. Their mascot is a pirate, so this was the Pirate Booty Invitational.

Wesley easily cleared his first three jumps: 5 flat, 5'2" and 5'4". That put him even with his best from last week. And then he set a PR and cleared 5'6".

In the next round he set another PR and cleared 5'8"!

He was so close to clearing 5'10" but kept hitting it with his hand. We're sure he'll get that one soon.

We're super proud of all his effort and how far he's come in just a few weeks!

First Day of School - Sarasota County

Monday morning Davis and Wesley got themselves up and got ready all on their own to head to high school. They were even ready early!  Davis will never have to take the bus to high school - he'll have Wesley to drive him these first two years and then he should be able to drive himself!

By all reports they both had a good first day at Riverview.

First day of Junior Year for Wesley and first day of Freshman Year for Davis.

Florida Boy Studying

This is how you study at home when you need quiet and it's cold outside.
Love all the mood lighting.

Rising Up to High School

Wednesday night Daryl and I took Davis to Riverview High School for the rising freshman information night. So hard to believe he's ready for high school! He got good information from the orchestra.

High School Open House

Wesley's high school open house was tonight at Riverview High in Sarasota. It was super interesting to see his new digs up close and personal and to navigate it to all of his classrooms. We enjoyed meeting his teachers. It's a massive school with a ton of resources. He's doing well with a very big adjustment this year, not only to high school but also to a new town and a much bigger environment.

Some Random Odds and Ends

The huge stack of boxes and bags of paper is continuing to accumulate on the front porch.

We also stopped by Riverview High School this week to finalize Wesley's registration at the school. It's a pretty impressive place and the trophies on display in the lobby are WOW!

We also popped by the Middle School to doublecheck on Davis' school registration but their office is closed for the summer until later in July. We'll be back!

Christy spent two days with us last week helping us to unpack the house and my office. We took her out to SKOB for dinner on the key and got her a sangria as well as a thank you!
