College Tour #4

Today we came to town to hit up the fourth college on Parker's list for a tour -  my alma mater, University of South Florida in Tampa. We've popped into campus here and there over the years but it was a wholly different experience walking around the campus today. It looks so different since I graduated in 1998! We walked almost 3 miles zigzagging across campus on the tour. The campus is gorgeous and so much has been added. USF is now considered by US News and World Report to be the nation's fastest rising university.

Cooper Hall was where I had most of my classes and where the Honors Program office was. Next door now they are building the Honors College its own 5 story, 78,000 square foot building!

The dorms were also a serious upgrade. Mine doesn't even exist anymore. This is the newest one.

Third College Tour Done

Third School - Flagler College in downtown St. Augustine, about two hours north of us. It's the smallest of the three schools he's looked at so far and has a great sports management program as well as communications/broadcast journalism, both of which are fields Parer is considering.

Admissions

We met with two folks from the admissions department, got a welcome bag and listened to a presentation about the school before being sent off on a tour with our own student ambassador. Most of the campus centers around a single city block but there are other parts extending a few blocks away. 

This tall building was built by Edison to power the Ponce De Leon hotel with electricity!

This is the largest building on campus - the former Ponce De Leon hotel built by Henry Flagler in 1888. It serves now as the main dormitory, dining hall and has some classrooms and meeting spaces.

After the tour was over we walked back up to get a picture of Parker by the sign. 

This rotunda is the dining hall with the world's largest single collection of Tiffany stained glass windows.  

It was a good tour and we could see Parker doing well here. There's an amazing campus ministry in town too for Methodist students across several different school campuses.
