A pastor friend gave us free USF Bulls tickets for Friday night. This alum was thrilled to go cheer on her team and the two oldest boys decided to come with.
It was retro night so the "old" logo was on the stadium and the helmets....
Of course that's the logo that was the one while I was a USF student
Saturday night we had the chance to attend a Gator Football game in the Swamp. Someone from Daryl's church gave us four tickets on the 50 yard line! Daryl, Parker and I went and we invited Joey to join us. Daryl and Parker had both been in the Swamp for a football game before, but Joey and I had never been. It was quite the experience!
Gator Band Pre Game Show
The Gator Football Team getting introduced
UF has a tradition of singing the Tom Petty song, I Won't Back Down, between the 3rd and 4th quarters. Everyone held their cell phone high with the flash lights on. So cool!
It wasn't the prettiest win (Gator's only scored one touchdown), but they did beat the Carolina 49ers 22-7.
Friday night found us with good weather and so we headed to Leesburg High School stadium to watch the Yellow Jackets play some football! It just so happened they were playing Forest High School from Ocala.
We ran into several church members who came out to watch the game, including some who had kids in the band. We saw the middle school band director from Carver and several teachers from Fruitland Park Elementary. And then Parker ran into a friend from Ocala - he was there because his dad was covering the game for Ocala radio! Preston and Parker had gone through most of elementary school together and played baseball together too. Here's Parker and Wesley hanging out on the fence line with Preston and some of their new friends from church/school here while at the game.
We caught a little rain towards the end of the game but it wasn't enough to drive us away. Unfortunately the Forest Wildcats got the best of us at the end of the game and ending up winning 31-17. But it was still a lot of fun for an evening. The boys all had fun watching the band perform too before the game and during halftime and Davis started copying the moves of the drum majors!
The Allen Family was established in 1999 and currently resides in Fruitland Park, Florida. Debbie and Daryl are both ordained pastors in the United Methodist Church. They have three sons: Parker, Wesley and Davis. Join us for our Allen Family Adventures!
