Middle School Promotion

Wesley's 8th grade promotion ceremony was held today in the Carver Middle School gym. They divided the 8th graders up into two teams and he was in the first group that graduated at 11am. This made it a much more pleasant experience fitting into the gymnasium.

Processing in

Wesley was recognized for being a student athlete, receiving plaques and certificates for being part of the co-ed soccer team and the boys' basketball team.

Wesley ended up being recognized for academics with the FAME award (which he also got in 6th grade). This is for maintaining a 3.5 GPA over the entire year with no Cs.

Recognition for cords. The black cords he was wearing were for earning one high school credit in middle school and the grey cords were for National Junior Honor Society. This was nice and new for us - they did not do cords for Parker's middle school promotion ceremony. Wesley was surprised with these before the ceremony - they did not practice or tell the kids ahead of time.

Having his name called for promotion.

Processing out. It is done!

Pictures with our graduate. So proud! Thankful to have Grandmommy make the trip up today and be able to stay and enjoy lunch with everyone also.

We gave Wesley a choice of where to eat for lunch and he picked Cody's in The Villages. We did presents while we were waiting on lunch. Wesley got a big BBQ burger.

When we got home, we laid out all of his honors and awards!

Middle School Field Trips

The last time I can remember being in Busch Gardens was the summer of 1996 with my mom. They were having some big kind of festival celebrating the Summer Olympics (which were being held in Atlanta that summer).  Busch Gardens is smack in between where I went to high school (1 mile south) and where I went to college (2 miles north). You can see some of the buildings at USF from different parts of the park. Today I went back with Davis for his 6th grade end of year field trip. It was his first time in the park.

This was our sweet group of 5 kids. It was so much fun to see Davis interacted with friends and really enjoying himself.

The kids liked the animals all around the park.

They also liked coasters. They rode Cheetah Hunt twice. Davis discovered he didn't have to be scared of upside down coasters. Later, Davis and Jayden rode the newest, fastest upside down coaster, Iron Gwazi.

It was a hot but good day. Glad we got to share this time together.

Spring Band Concert

Thursday night was Davis' spring band concert - and the last Carver Middle School band concert for the Allen boys. Beginning Band played three songs and Davis played in the first and last ones.

Davis played the bells for the first song, Dueling Dragons.

And Davis played the big bass drum for the last song Mechanical Monsters.

At the end all of the band students lined up for their certificates.

And then they honored Mr. Eury, who is retiring from teaching after this school year to open up his own woodworking business.

Miss Faye came out from the church to cheer Davis on.

Sixth Grade Awards Night

Thursday night was 6th Grade Awards night.

Davis was recognized for being on the Honor Roll for the 1st and 3rd nine weeks of the year. Super proud of Davis!

Wesley's name was in the program too although the 8th grade awards won't be handed out until 8th grade promotion on May 25: basketball, soccer and the FAME award (3.5 or higher GPA all year long).
