Mommy Running

Today was the day that Mommy had been working for since the beginning of July with the Couch to 5K program - an actual 5K. Grandma came up to spend the weekend and the whole family left the house at 6:30am to head to Silver Springs Nature Park in Ocala. Daddy helped Mommy get checked in and ready to go. The race started about 7:45am and wound through the parking lots of Wild Waters, Silver Springs and then through the Silver Springs Park. Fortunately there were several places along the way where the rest of the family could line up and watch Mommy go by; they were always there to take pictures and cheer her on.

Before the race (there were over 600 runners this morning)

There were no markers for mileage until mile 2 next to the stinky giraffes. At that point Mommy was 1 minute and 50 seconds ahead of her usual training pace. Coming out of the park for one last winding trip through the parking lot.

Finishing up in the Wild Waters lot where she started. Mommy poured it on and in the last little bit and really shaved some time off.

Her official time on the result sheet was 40 minutes flat. Her stopwatch on the phone said 39:56. That was about 1:15 faster than her fastest training run so far. That meant she met all of her goals: to finish the race, to run the entire race and to beat her personal best!

It is really fun when you can see the finish line and come up with a burst of speed you didn't know you had isn't it? Larry

Yes it was! I thought I was gonna pass out or throw up when I finished but thankfully was ok. :-)
