Conference Adventures

This past week I spent at the Life Enrichment Center for my first interview week as a member of the Florida Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. If someone had told me back in 2001 when I first interviewed before this board that I would someday be on it I would have thought they were insane; seriously! I made four appearances before the Conference Board between that first visit and my last visit in 2008 when I was approved for ordination as an elder in full connection. Over time I came to appreciate the process and how I grew because of it and in the last fifteen years it has been my privilege to get to know many of the people around that table as colleagues and friends.

Interview week began most mornings with meetings over breakfast and then the interview sessions began at 8am with worship. Most nights we were not done interviewing after 10:30pm. That makes for some very long days! But it was amazing to hear story after story of how God has been at work in peoples' lives and in their ministries.

During one break late Wednesday afternoon for my interview group, I just needed to move! I ended up going for a run around the LEC and across the street to the Warren Willis Camp. Every single time I visit camp, even if it is just to drive over and pick up our kids from after school care, I feel like I am coming home. It is beautiful and holy ground indeed.
