Scalloping Fun

We spent last Thursday out on the water with the youth group from Community UMC. They have a tradition of going scalloping a couple of times during the summer. While Daryl was born in Florida and I have lived here most of  my life, neither of us had ever been scalloping before and we were intrigued! It turned out to be a really wonderful experience. We had enough people for two boats and we went out into the Gulf from Crystal River.

It didn't take long to get reacquainted with snorkeling gear and to start diving down for the scallops.

The limit per boat was 10 gallons so for our two boats combined we caught 20 gallons. We hit half our limit before lunchtime and after changing spots, very quickly finished off our limit by 1:30pm. Then we took the kids to the Three Sisters Springs to go swimming - and all the adults spent time shucking the scallops.

When we got back to church we divided up the prize.... We ended up with three bags of fresh scallops! We saved them to eat for dinner on Davis' birthday, when Parker was home from camp. They were absolutely delicious!!! Can't wait to try this again soon!
