Out with the Old, In with the New

In 2003, we didn't have children. And yet when we needed another vehicle, we replaced Daddy's white Saturn SL2 with a used, white Ford Windstar minivan. A few people thought we were crazy. But it certainly did come in handy driving around in Fort Myers though, as we were working with the youth group there at Tice church. It made transporting the teenagers around so much easier!

When we purchased the van it was three years old and had 38,000 miles on it. Fast forward to today. We've driven it for eight years and have put approximately 100,000 more miles on it. It's got some problems and some quirks - broken power motor on the driver seat, a slider door that works when it feels like it, a leak in the AC that no one can seem to find so it has to be charged up frequently, and it tries to stall if it has less than 1/4 tank of gas. Lately it's taken to not starting when we try to drive it, which isn't very convenient. The van has been good to us, but it is time to move on. This week the Windstar will be picked up by a service, sold at auction and the proceeds donated to the Florida United Methodist Children's Home.

And sitting in its place now in the garage will be this new-to-us, white 2003 Honda Odyssey with its 59,000 original miles.

Grandmom and Grandad bought this van new from the dealer and after they passed away, it went to Grandma and Grandpa. Grandpa used it to drive back and forth to work and it's been driven sporadically since he broke his foot in 2009. Not many people have a third generation family vehicle! We're very thankful to Grandma for making this possible. We spent Monday morning getting the title transferred over as well as our license plate and adding it to our insurance so we are all good to go!
