Turkey Day 2013

We drove home to Seffner the night before Thanksgiving, arriving finally at Grandmommy and Granddaddy's house about 7:30pm just in time for dinner. The North Carolina relatives had all arrived the day before - Uncle Bill, Aunt Bobbi, their daughter-in-law Joy and their grandchildren Montgomery and Monica. The big boys were thrilled to be back with their cousins and Davis quickly took to all of the new faces and playmates. It was a late night as everyone spent time visiting together!

Thanksgiving Day dawned bright and early. Grandmommy and Aunt Bobbi had plenty of helpers in the kitchen; Wesley even tried to peel potatoes. I took off to my mom's to spend some time with her and cook a couple of vegetable dishes for the afternoon lunch.

There were 23 at the house to eat - Grandmommy and Grandaddy, Uncle Daniel's crew (5), our crew (5), the North Carolina crew (5), Grandma, Grannie, Aunt Barbara, Uncle David, Uncle Nam and Uncle Kelly. Here's a few highlights of our fun afternoon.

The family gathered to watch Micah launch rockets in the backyard. One went pretty much up and down, one went in the front yard of the neighbors in the top of their oak tree and one landed in Granddaddy's pool.

More silliness in the yard!

Post-dinner naps!

When we took Grandma home in the afternoon, Davis insisted on giving her a ride around the living room in her wheelchair. Parker and Bethany had ridden with us and spent some time hanging out. When we left her house, we drove past the house that used to belong to Daryl's grandparents, Howard and Emma Davis. We also went past Seffner Cemetery and visited their graves. These are the family members that Davis is named after.

Daryl's cousins Sam and Clark are now back living in the area; Clark in Brandon and Sam in Orlando. They came over to hang out and spend some time with us in the evening and it was great to catch up with them. Clark will graduate from FSU in a couple of weeks and already has a teaching job lined up at Spoto High in Riverview.

The evening ended with the big boys headed two doors down for a sleepover at Uncle Daniel and Aunt Dawn's house with their cousins. They had a great time together!
