One of the largest waterfalls in the southeastern United States is only about 30 minutes south of Sapphire - Whitewater Falls. We tried to visit last year only there had been a wildfire which destroyed the viewing platforms and everything was closed to visitors. On our way into Sapphire this year it was raining too hard to stop - so we saved it for the way home.
