NC Vacation - Part One

We drove up to Sapphire Valley North Carolina on the day after Christmas for a week of vacation in the mountains. We were hoping for snow and a chance to finally try out the ski resort - slopes and snow tubing. While the weather was colder than Florida, it was definitely not cold enough for snow and the ski resort section was closed. We managed to have a great time though.

The view from our back porch in Foxhunt Condos in the neighborhood around Meadow Lake. This is a section of the Sapphire Valley Master Association that we have stayed in before; in fact we stayed in one unit right on the lake for our first visit in 2016.

Daryl crashed early after driving the whole way up!

Our first full day in Sapphire was Monday and we spent the day sleeping in, relaxing, walking around the neighborhood and checking out the recreation field.

We decided to do our big meal as "lupper" each day - a late lunch/early supper. This way we could do takeout easily and not worry about the crowds that might be in town for eating in person at dinner. Our first one was a feast of chicken, ribs and pulled pork from Cashiers Valley Smokehouse.

We got firewood at the hardware store and every night Daryl built us a warm fire in the fireplace. It was such a wonderful way to wind down each evening (and we put my chair right next to it so I could stay warm!).
