Finally received some pictures of BUMC's Anniversary Celebration! All of these pictures were taken by Robin Grant, who helped Mommy coordinate the whole weekend.
Things got going on Friday night with a free spaghetti dinner put on by the youth group followed by a concert with Backwater, a local contemporary Bluegrass group. One of the members of Backwater (Billy Taylor - 2nd from left) grew up at BUMC and his parents and sister are still very active members.
Saturday was the picnic at Lake Lillian. Across from our picnic site there was the original site of the Belleview church - the congregation moved to its present site in 1976. There was lots of good food, fun and music (the old Powerhouse band from BUMC's old Saturday night service reunited at the picnic). Most of us were dressed in tan, sporting our anniversary t-shirts.
Sunday morning was one combined worship service. A total of 9 pastors participated in worship besides Mommy - including 2 retired pastors who are active in our congregation and 7 former pastors who served BUMC from 1972-2009. Parker's choir sang in the service and our intergenerational group of praise dancers performed as well.
There was one guest at worship who came to see Mommy and Daddy - Mrs. Frances Meier. For several years while we were growing up at Seffner UMC, Frances' late husband Duane Meier was our assistant pastor. This was after he had already retired after many years in the ministry. Duane and Frances were very special to our congregation and to our families. They were good friends with Daddy's Grandmommy and Granddaddy as well as Mommy's Grandma and Grandpa Keller. Frances is in her 90s now and in very good health. She traveled up for the anniversary with her son-in-law who served as the pastor at BUMC in the late 90s. It was such a nice treat to be able to reminisce with Frances at Sunday's luncheon!
