Mommy's Trip

Last week Mommy spent four days in Atlanta at the Southeastern Jurisdictional Clergywomen Consultation. About three hundred clergywomen gathered at the Emory Conference Center for four days of worship, continuing education workshops and plenty of fellowship. Included among those gathered were the Dean of the Candler School of Theology, the Dean of Africa University, as well as several seminary professors, General Board staff, district superintendents, conference staff, ordained elders and deacons serving local churches and extension ministries, provisional elders and deacons and even some candidates for ministry. We were also thrilled to host the three female bishops within our jurisdiction (as seen in the picture from left to right): Bishop Charlene Kammerer; Bishop Hope Morgan Ward; and Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor.

There were approximately 30 clergywomen from the Florida Conference there and it was our great honor on Wednesday to attend a retirement banquet honoring Bishop Kammerer. Charlene Payne Kammerer paved the way for every clergywoman in Florida as the first woman ordained in the Florida Conference. She later became the first woman to serve as a district superintendent in our conference as well. Here's Mommy and her friend Charissa Jaeger-Sanders at that banquet.

It was a wonderful time of connection, fellowship and renewal!
