Grandma Update

Last Friday morning I spent time with my mom at Moffitt in Tampa again. She needed regular bloodwork, her monthly infusion and she also received the results of her December PET scan. The previous scan in July showed some small tumor growth in one area. So her cocktail of daily meds was changed from Femara to Afinitor and the dosage has been gradually increased from 5mg to 7.5mg. The December scan showed additional growth in two areas. We were able to spend significant time discussing a new treatment plan with her oncologist, Dr. Hyo Han, who was pleased that Mom looks and feels as well as she does. Dr. Han wants her to up the Afinitor to 10mg for the two months and repeat the scan in February. If that doesn't help, then the next course of treatment is chemotherapy - IV infusions of chemo once a week for three weeks and then a week off, and repeat the whole cycle. We're investigating a clinical trial that is a possibility which would include the needed chemo and offer the opportunity to take an additional new cancer drug (double blind study so half will get the new drug and half will get a placebo). She remains in very good spirits, and we would appreciate your continued prayers for her health.
