Baseball Champions

Tonight was the last night of the Marion County Minor League Baseball Tournament at the Rotary Sportsplex. Both boys' teams qualified for the tournament - they took the top 3 teams from each division (Rookie, Minor, Major) at four different parks across the county. Wesley's team finished in 3rd place for the Rotary Rookies to qualify; Parker's team finished first for the Rotary Minors. It was a double elimination tournament, meaning that you could keep playing until you lost two games. Wesley's Twin teammates played hard but lost their games on Monday and Tuesday and were eliminated. Parker's unbeaten Padre teammates won their games on Tuesday and Wednesday and qualified for the championship game.

This was Parker's team after their win on Wednesday night. It was a far better team picture than the one we got this evening. Because of the predicted thunderstorms for Thursday and Friday at this point they thought the rest of the tournament would be cancelled and the boys were told to sort of consider this their championship game. Thankfully the weather stayed nice this week and we could finish the tournament the right way.

Tonight's game was against the Highland Red Wings. The Padres had barely squeaked out a win against them earlier in the week. The final score after ended up being 10-5. Parker got a great pop fly to center field in his first at bat and went down swinging in his second at bat.

Parker receiving his county tournament championship medal from one of his coaches. Parker's coaches were so complimentary of his improvements this season. Something clicked for him about halfway through the season and he got a hit in everyone of his games for the last four weeks. He was also stealing bases, getting RBIs and making great plays in the field that contributed to a couple of outs in the tournament.

One very, very happy child!
Congratulations Parker - Daddy and Mommy are so proud of you!
