East Coast Date Day

Friday Daryl and I headed over to the east coast of Florida for our date day. We're starting to work our way through a book of 50 Hikes in Central Florida and the hike for the day was Ponce Preserve in Ponce Inlet, between Daytona and New Smyrna Beach. We've been to this area before to visit the Ponce De Leon Lighthouse here but had missed this hidden gem of the Preserve. It's in between the Atlantic and the Intercoastal Waterway and you get to see both as you follow the paths. There's also several large historic live oak trees (over 400 years old) and the Green mound archaeological site.

We couldn't believe how many tiny little crabs we saw climbing on the boardwalk and also in the mangroves surrounding the boardwalk.

After finishing the 2 mile trail all along Ponce Preserve, we went back to the beach and walked barefoot in the surf for a couple of miles.

Then we headed over to the Lighthouse and ate lunch right next door at Hidden Treasure. Such good food and a wonderful view of New Smyrna Dunes Park from the dock.
