I traveled to England with Bishop Berlin, Dr. Paul Chilcote and a couple of other conference staff to lead our recent ordinands and their spouses in a Wesley pilgrimage. This is me with my assistant in the Office of Clergy Excellence, Holly Finley.
We flew from Orlando over to London on a Thursday night and arrived Friday morning. Then we drove up to Coventry to look at the old and new cathedrals before going on to our hotel in Nottingham.
Why Coventry? During World War 2 the town of Coventry was bombed and the cathedral was destroyed. The town kept the shell of the "old" cathedral as a sign and symbol of reconciliation and forgiveness and rebuilt a new cathedral next door.
