Video Awards

Yesterday we went as a family to the Hilton Resort at Bonnet Creek on the Disney property for the FAME (Florida Association for Media in Education) Awards Banquet. This was the state competition for the video that Parker's class made. There were two other groups from South Ocala that went with us who were being honored as well (and those groups took home one 1st place and one 2nd place awards).

Here's Mrs Robles (Parker's 2nd grade teacher, there with her class from last year), Mrs. Burgess the principal, and Mrs. Fritz the media specialist before the ceremony started.

Entertaining ourselves beforehand.

This was the main speaker for the banquet, children's author James Preller who writes the Jigsaw Jones series. He talked with the kids about how to come up with ideas and follow those through into creation. He did a great job of communicating on their level.

Parker's class won second place in the Public Service Announcement Category! Way to go Parker!

Once up on stage, the sponsor received the trophy for the school and then named each one of their students aloud to a round of applause. As they left the stage, the students received a certificate with their name on it.

And then all of the award winners lined up at the back for a chance to meet James Preller. He gave away a copy of one of his books to every child and autographed them personally. Parker picked a book called "Six Innings" about a little league baseball game!

All in all, it was a very well done ceremony and presentation, and we had a great time celebrating Parker's achievement along with all of the other kids from South Ocala and even Marion County.
