We've known Michael Weaver Jr for 20+ years; he started candidacy at the same time as Daryl. His dad died between Hurricanes Helene and Milton in September and the family had the funeral last Saturday. Daryl and I drove down to Fort Myers to be with Mike and his family.
Sunday morning I worshiped with East Naples UMC and stayed for their fellowship meal and then presided over their charge conference.
Then I went over to First UMC Naples to do their charge conference. Such a sweet change of spirit there.
On Tuesday I read a bunch of charge conference paperwork for churches that held their own conferences.
Wednesday I met with a couple of church leadership groups throughout the Bradenton area, and then I got to preside over Daryl and Sarah's charge conference at Grace Venice.
Thursday I was up super early to catch a flight and meet Holly in Atlanta. We were visiting seminary students in person at Candler Theological Seminary (on the campus of Emory University). We have several Florida students there. We had a great time connecting with them along with faculty/staff - including Dr. Brett Opalinski, a dear pastor friend from Florida.
Later in the afternoon we toured Gammon Theological Seminary on the campus of ITC - this is the only historically black UM Seminary. Dr. Candace Lewis, the president, is a friend from Florida too. Holly and I got to visit with her and go to dinner, before flying home late.
