Kenya Day Four

On Monday of our trip, we got to checkin again with Reegan, the CEO of Zoe Kenya.

And then we headed off to visit with our Blessing group from the South West district. These children live near Maua in the village of Kaene. We have been sponsoring this group since January 2024. The group includes 25 sponsored teenagers who care for their younger siblings - which means the whole group totals 99 persons! They were so excited and welcomed us well - coming out of the church singing and dancing.

We made our way inside the church where the group meets weekly. And we had the opportunity to sing a worship song together and hear from several people in the group.

The group leader Brian.

The group chaplain Ann

The group secretary Angela

These two young people are two of the most successful business owners in the group - she has a salon and he runs a barber shop.

Daryl and I also got the chance to talk with the kids and tell them how proud we were of them.

Then they presented us with gifts. These two beautiful blankets which they sang about and wrapped around us while dancing (they taught us the dance).

Then the kids wanted us to go outside and play some games in the yard: soccer, volleyball and jump rope.

One young man who has a motorbike for a taxi service invited Daryl to ride with him in the yard.

Then we ate the lunch that they had prepared for us which was delicious! We sat under the big shade tree.

Then we spent time getting some pictures in the yard. They loved selfies and they loved having their individual pictures taken.

We showed them pictures of our boys back home which they thought were so cool.

Daryl brought hand made cards for all of the children from the kids at the Grace UMC Venice preschool.

The kids recorded two messages for back home - one for our boys and one for our churches.

We got to visit two of the kids businesses. This young lady has a hair salon and also a convenience shop.

And this young man runs a barber shop and employs two other people now. We got to see him in action with some of his customers.

It was so special to be able to see these teenagers in person that we have been praying for over the last 18 months! And so amazing to see their progress into business owners and community leaders.

Some of our tour group visited other Zoe groups and when we came back to the hotel we discovered that they had been gifted a chicken and a rooster. The chicken got passed on to a Zoe graduate and the rooster got passed on to the hotel kitchen.
