High School Retreat

Last weekend I spent time with our high school youth on their mystery retreat - we started out at the Leesburg High School Jazz Band Concert and Dinner.

Then we drove and drove - all the way to St. Augustine. We crashed for the night in this cool rental house.

Saturday morning started off bright and early, with a tour of nearby Flagler College. It was led by interns from the City to Campus Wesley Foundation that covers St. Augustine and Jacksonville. The main centerpiece of campus is Henry Flagler's Ponce De Leon Hotel.

Then we grabbed lunch downtown in the historic district, before beginning a scavenger hunt around downtown.

Then we grabbed some of Hyppo's famous popsicles to cool off.

We followed that up with some down time back at the house and then on to an Escape Room. We split up into two groups and each group did a different challenge. Thankfully both groups were able to escape!

For dinner, we took sandwich fixin's out to the beach and played in the surf and sand and watched the sunset.

Back at the house, we had some fun with different games. I'm learning tot play Phase 10 here.

Sunday morning we went to worship downtown at Grace UMC. My friend Carolyn co-pastors this church with her husband David. We had a great time in their 9:15am service and one of our Wesley tour guides from the day before was also in the praise band. After worship, Carolyn talked with our youth about the different ministries they have their to the homeless community.

We were supposed to visit the beach again, but a string of tornado watches for the state, meant we needed to head home early. Lunch was a quick stop off in Daytona at a new BBQ place that turned out to be pretty awesome.

I had a lot of fun tagging along as a chaperone, but boy did I need a nap when we got home!
